WORK IN PROGRESS
The current focus of my artworks is female traditional headdresses. I wanted to explore a sense of identity, heritage and femininity within my pieces and start a conversation about how these aspects shape our sense of self. For my part, I was born in Mariupol, Ukraine (which is now occupied by Russia). I was raised in Lincolnshire, travelled some of the world and have settled in Cornwall. So for me, this collection is very personal, as I navigate my own feelings surrounding my identity and heritage. Moreover, I want to celebrate the world’s diverse cultures through these art pieces. Our world is full of uncertainties at the moment and I feel that we need more recognition and admiration of the wonderful diversities that make up the human race, and I feel that my colour palette lends itself beautifully to this celebration!
Connect to the rhythm of folklore, ground yourself in tradition and feel our hearts all beating as one. For diversity does not mean division, and unity does not mean dissolution of individuality. Connection between all of us must be how we move forward.
